It is recognized that any higher education institution has threefold functions: instruction, research, and community services. Excellence then can be achieved by acquisition of new knowledge which can only be attained through innovative and creative researches.

The UPHS JONELTA Research Institute seeks to fulfill excellence in research function and propel the UPHS to become an internationally recognized higher education research institution fostering quality researches in education, engineering, medicine and health sciences while contributing to the improvement of the quality of life of society through the following:

Training researchers to advance institutional assessment and scholarships in higher education;
Producing and disseminating original, innovative and creative researches;
Providing the tools and resources to utilize research at the institutional, local and international level;
Working in cooperation and collaboration with institutions of higher education; and
Developing partnerships with higher education organizations and medical centers to promote institutional excellence.
The Research Institute will lead, standardize, strengthen, revitalize, enrich and sustain the research activities of the university in collaboration with the different research and development centers within the UPHS JONELTA.

MISSION
To strengthen the integration of basic sciences and health-related researches in the curriculum;
To establish a collaboration between Research and Biotechnology Unit and clinical departments;
Elevate the quality of Research, Basic Science and Clinical
a. Provide technical training/workshop on all aspects of research;
b. Provide academic exchange with renowned international research institution (training visits or visiting scientists);
c. Enhance expertise/skills to perform high level technical review.
Require researches to disseminate new knowledge/discoveries/findings to the scientific/medical community
a. Publish in peer review journals;
b. Provide incentives for publication in ISI-indexed journals;
c. Present research output in appropriate local and international venue and provide financial support.
Focus on research with potential for translational medicine (bench, bed and beyond);
a. Apply for patent/intellectual property
Increase access to external funding
a. Write proposal;
b. Identify funding sources
Develop a good reputation leading to more access to funding agencies and collaboration with leading researchers

Research Events and News
Last April 19, 2022, the newly constructed Research Institute and Laboratories were blessed. The said blessing was led by Dr. Arcadio L. Tamayo with Congresswoman Len Alonte and Vice-Mayor Gel Alonte of Binan City, Laguna. Research services such as consultancy, phytochemical and toxicity testing will be done this first semester AY 2022-2023.
